Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
