Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
